Dear Members and Friends,
I sometimes like to begin my letters with a favorite quote, such as:
“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” … Albert Schweitzer
I serve on the U.S. Chamber Board of Regents. As a member of the Board, we oversee implementation of the Northeast Institute education program – held annually in August at Villanova University. Northeast Institute is one of the U.S. Chamber’s four large scale nonprofit management certification programs offered to employees of associations and chambers of commerce. Our duties include planning and organizing the program.
When I returned from this year’s program, I realized how thrilling it was to see everyone, for we had not been together in person since 2019. Reconnecting with Board members, chatting with faculty members I’ve come to know, spending time with peers from around the country, and supporting attendees, helped me remember how much serving in this industry means to me, both professionally and personally - this makes me happy.
Our Chamber of Commerce proudly participates in many community initiatives including the SCC Digital Equity Coalition, Chester County opioid crisis, the Jennersville Hospital transition to the ChristianaCare West Grove Campus, Kennett High School’s Degree Program, KACS Food Drives, and more and all of this makes me happy.
As our organization continues to be a driving force for those in need, it brings me back full circle to Albert Schweitzer’s philosophy, which was built upon the principle of helping others. Helping others doesn’t just make the world better – it makes us better, for the act of giving back inspires happiness, health, and well-being.
Please reach out if you would like to be happier by being involved – we would love to include you...and this would also make me happy.
Best regards,
Cheryl B. Kuhn, IOM
