The Route 1 Economic Development Initiative is a partnership between the Chester County Economic Development Council (CCEDC) and Southern Chester County Chamber of Commerce (SCCCC).
MISSION The Route 1 Economic Development Initiative (Rte. 1 EDI) of Southern Chester County envisions a region that works together to provide opportunities for its citizens, expands the region’s tax base and diversity thereby stabilizing taxes, creates attractive destinations for commerce and development, protects the agricultural base, conserves our picturesque landscapes, and builds on a sense-of-place as a leading and healthy region and excellent place in which to live, work and stay.
Through voluntary conversations with and among municipalities along the Route 1 Business Corridor, as stewards, we promote quality of life in concurrence with preservation, selective economic development, and smart growth and development.
The Route 1 Corridor stretches from Kennett Township to West Nottingham Township. Bounded by Route 1 to the north and the East Penn Railroad line to the south, this corridor includes 12 municipalities and four school districts.
It is the mission of the initiative to promote a region that provides jobs, expands it tax base and invests in the business districts. The aim is also to attract commerce and development while protecting the region’s agricultural base and picturesque landscapes.
The initiative is driven by a group of passionate and committed volunteers and governed by a Steering Committee whose objectives reinforce one of the priority commitments outlined in the County’s strategic plan:
To support the growth and development of a strong and vibrant economy
To attract new businesses and keep existing ones
To maintain the pastoral landscape of Southern Chester County
